Douglas Creek Canal & Nevada Creek Update
Douglas Creek Canal – Restart
Irrigation water can become available again via the Douglas Creek Canal beginning this Monday, July the 9th. However, any extra drying time would be beneficial for ridding the pond weed in the upper sections of the canal, so I do not plan to restart the canal until there is some definite demand. If irrigators need to resume taking water from the Douglas canal, please contact me with your orders and desired start date.
Contract Water
Nevada Creek reservoir is still in a state of minor spill. This is largely due to the current lack of irrigation demand downstream of the reservoir. But creek flows are dropping, weather forecasts are for continued above normal temps with below normal precip, and as irrigation demand begins to increase to more normal rates, we can anticipate that demand will begin to diminish the current reservoir storage. Therefore also beginning Monday, July 9, all none-decreed water deliveries will be applied as contract usage.
Decreed Water Rights
Currently, most all called Nevada creek water rights are still good. But again, with dropping flows & drier conditions, more junior rights will begin dropping off as demand for senior rights increases. Decreed water users are reminded to monitor the Current Status of Irrigation Rights and be respectful of them. Please contact me about your decreed water usage so that I can maintain the rights status and proper creek flows.
Thanks,
