Douglas Creek Canal Shut Off
This is a reminder to all water user’s on Douglas Creek canal. Douglas canal will be shut off for the season on the evening of September 30th (this Wednesday). This date coincides with the end of our designated Period of Use for contract water delivery per our water right. We also have need to get the canal dewatered in preparation for the start of construction work slated to begin on or around October 5th. This construction project includes the replacement of the diversion headgate structure, installation of a sediment curb structure, and installation of a water measurement structure along with sat-link water measurement equipment. Trout Unlimited also has creek restoration work scheduled for this same time frame, which will include the section of creek directly upstream of Douglas diversion.
In addition to Douglas canal being shut down, this construction work will require the Nevada creek tailwater to be brought down to a very minimal flow. Water user’s downstream of Nevada creek reservoir should be aware of these minimal flows that will occur shortly after October 1, and may continue through much of the fall season.
Thank you!
