Water Update 5-11-19

May Stream Forecast

The NRCS released their Water Supply Outlook Report last week.  There isn’t much change for the Nevada creek drainage since the previous month.  The current projection is 109% of normal stream flows for both the May-July and May-September periods.  The Nevada Ridge snotel is currently reporting 12″ of s.w.e. (snow water equivalent) remaining, and this upper level snow has begun runoff in the recent few days of warmer conditions.  For those who are interested, the full state-wide Water Supply Outlook Report can be downloaded here, and the stream forecast tables are available here.

Douglas Canal Liner Project

Work on the Douglas Canal liner replacement project has progressed well in the recent 10 days.  After sitting through the winter, the work section was re-compacted before we began the installation of the new epdm liner.  At current, we have completed that installation and the longitudinal downslope anchor has been completed.  The gravel ballast layer has been laid onto the canal floor, graded & compacted.  We plan to begin forming up to pour the concrete lateral anchor points and downstream drop structure this Monday, the 13th.  These concrete structures require two separate pours with a little cure time in between, but we will hopefully have these completed by the end of this coming week.  Currently, we hope to have all work completed and have the canal operational no later than May 21.
